Casement Window Handle

Casement Window Handle

A casement window handle is the mechanism used to open, close, and often lock a casement window. Casement windows are hinged on the side and swing inwards or outwards like a door. The handle is a crucial part of the window hardware, providing the user with control over its operation and security.

  • How Casement Window Handles Work:

The basic function of a casement window handle is to provide leverage to move the window sash and engage the locking mechanism.

    • Espag Handles: Turning the handle rotates a spindle that runs into the window frame. This spindle connects to a series of locking points (bolts or cams) that move to secure the window tightly against the frame at multiple locations.
    • Cockspur Handles: The handle is manually pushed so that the spur engages with the wedge on the frame. The shape of the spur and the wedge creates a secure point.
    • Tilt and Turn Handles: Different positions of the handle control different functions. One position allows the window to tilt inwards for ventilation, while another allows it to swing fully open. A locked position secures the window completely.
